The Magneto Method: Why our training actually works

Most communication training focuses on rules. We focus on results.

The Magneto Method combines the psychology of engagement — the principles that make people read, listen and act — with modern communication standards: the practical tools your team needs for high-quality, credible, personable communication in today’s workplace.

Not a cardigan in sight. Think less ‘grammar lecture,’ more ‘this is actually going to change how I work.’

The Magneto Method — combining the Psychology of Engagement (proven copywriting principles for engaging, influential communication) with Modern Communication Standards (techniques and tactics for high-quality, credible, personable communication).

Deep experience

We've taken a potentially snore-worthy topic and flipped it into an entertaining and generous experience. You'll learn that great communication is less about writing and much more about psychology. And your course has lashings of that, including best-practice educational psychology to keep you engaged and make your learning 'stick.'

Come prepared for a variety of learning strategies, including stories, games (try this one for starters), humour and even gourmet jelly beans!

Multidisciplinary

Quality communication demands a broad skillset. Our principles stem from a range of fields, including: copywriting, advertising, sociology, psychology, emotional intelligence, behavioural economics, persuasion, influence, sales, marketing, leadership.

We don't just teach you where to put an apostrophe – we train you to think holistically, about your reader, objective, strategy and more.

How we work

Where?

We’re based in Sydney, Australia, but run in-house and virtual training sessions wherever you are. We can cater our training for global or dispersed teams.

Explore our training options, self-paced learning or Magneto Mentor AI.

Magic happens when your team comes together to learn from a specialist (us) and each other (their colleagues). Human connection is the key – whether that’s in-person or via video conference.

How?

Our in-house masterclasses are one-day intensives (9am to 5pm). We run our virtual sessions over two shorter, 3-hour sessions using Microsoft Teams.

But the learning doesn’t start or end there. Magneto Mentor AI also supports the learning process ‘back at the desk’.

Who?

For personal attention, we normally limit our in-house and virtual groups to 18 people. We tailor every session to each group’s needs and level, so our sessions are relevant for everyone in large enterprise – from graduates to the C-suite.

What?

Our tailoring is based on your objectives, your trainees, your company values and style guide. All trainees get a detailed, full-colour course manual – a valuable post-course reference and study tool – and a toolbox of inspiration and resources.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have a great reputation for taking a dry topic and making it engaging, research-based, practical and interactive. Each program is tailored to your templates, communication samples, key challenges, values and strategy.

Yes, every program is tailored to your company, the individuals attending and the learning outcomes you need.

We have training options for both individuals and large enterprise teams. One size does not fit all so contacting us and discussing what you need is a great first step. We have solutions and experience with all scenarios.

Key programs: Most of what we do is run in-house training for enterprise teams. Each cohort is typically up to 18 people. This is a great group size for diverse inputs and the opportunity to all learn from each other. If the group gets larger it’s harder for attendees to feel comfortable asking questions, time becomes tight, and personalised learning starts to diminish.

Presentation skills training is an exception: Given we run this in a very practical and personalised group coaching format these programs are limited to 14 people.

Learning Bites: Our shorter 1-2 hour ‘Learning Bites’ sessions are more flexible around numbers. They range from 20 people workshop style up to 120 and above for keynote or conference style sessions.

Yes, we can but there is a 30% surcharge for the second day and extra travel costs may apply depending on the location of the program. If we split it across two days ideally allow four hours each day (e.g. 9am - 1pm).

The right choice depends on what you’re writing:

  • Board Paper Brilliance: A perfect fit if the group is writing board, committee, and formal papers regularly and repeatedly. This course focuses on structuring clear, strategic communication for senior audiences. If you’re not writing board papers but definitely want to sharpen your written communication overall, ‘Get it Write’ is your go-to.
  • Get it Write: If your people are writing a very broad range of everyday business communication—emails, reports, proposals, and more—this is a great choice. This course is targeted at enterprise teams with a primarily technical background. These people are wired for numbers more than words, but need to build better habits around clear, concise and commercial business writing.

The two courses aren’t part of a progression—one isn’t more advanced than the other. Both are for business writing and both are principles-based. You choose the right one based on what the team is writing.

We don’t recommend it. The energy and program design are best focused on one format only to avoid compromising the experience in either.

When a facilitator runs a face-to-face program they use entirely different exercises, learning and engagement approaches to when they run the same thing virtually. It’s the difference between what a stage actor does and a film actor – completely different facilitation approaches even when the content and concepts are the same.

If you have some people in the room and others online the day is very stop/start to accommodate the needs of both groups. Ultimately, this isn’t smooth for all.

If it’s unavoidable, this combination works for those who can’t be there in person:

  1. If a few of the group can’t attend the live training event: They can complete our self-paced online course beforehand.
  2. Then, join via MS Teams on the day to participate in discussions with their peers, and ask questions.

For a virtual session they can log into the training from any location that is suitable for quiet concentration. Usually it’s best to let them decide what is going to be the optimal environment for learning.

Typically, at your office in a training room or boardroom. We are based in Sydney but travel to where you are, as needed.

We typically use Microsoft Teams since most of our enterprise clients are on the MS Office Suite. We can host events of any size through Teams events and webinars. If a Town Hall event is needed for a keynote we will often run that on your account to guarantee things will run smoothly at scale. We were running virtual training events long before Covid and have delivered training on every major platform. The best choice is one that enables great facilitation and provides easy access for participants.

Absolutely! We design every virtual session to be highly engaging using multimedia, real-time collaboration, and active discussion. Virtual has emerged as the preference for our enterprise clients because their teams are mostly dispersed globally and the virtual training format is a winner thanks to our unique delivery style.

Given you don’t all need to squeeze into one room, yes, this can be a great option for larger groups. Talk to us what you need, and we can find the right option. The best decision always has the learners at the centre of our decision-making.

Of course! The learning expands back into the workplace. Participants receive extensive post-training resources and access to ongoing learning tools.

We aim to make our learning as accessible and effective as possible for all. That said, our live sessions are highly interactive and fast-moving, which may not always be the best fit for everyone — particularly people with low vision, audio processing challenges, or certain learning difficulties.

For this reason, our self-paced courses are often the most supportive option.

Here are some ideas on how we can adapt but given accessibility is unique to the individual it’s best to contact us in advance to discuss. See: https://magneto.net.au/accessibility/

Live, virtual, self-paced or hybrid — fully tailored to your team’s needs.
