Smart ways to enjoy (and finish!) your online course

We mostly run in-house, tailored training for enterprise teams of around 15-20 people per session.

But not everyone has a team that big, so here’s a self-paced video option to help you create a ‘blended learning’ event for smaller teams.

You likely fit one of two profiles:

  1. You’re highly motivated and love doing online learning on your own, to your own timeline, without interruption. If you’re already logged in, the cat’s on your lap, and you’re halfway through the course, this is you!

  2. For the rest of us, online learning can be a little … lonely. And other priorities can compete for your time. So here are some ways to ‘engineer’ what can be missing in online courses: a social element + accountability!

These ideas will work for any of our online courses.

Make your online learning social and accountable

  • Buddy up! Find at least one other person to join you in your learning journey. Then you’ll share the experience. And you’ll have a great sounding board to discuss the course ideas.

  • Or, form a small group: If you’re part of a larger learning cohort, break into smaller groups of 3-4 people and commit to doing the course together.

  • Set a realistic schedule: However long your course is, consider doing it start to finish in a given month. It’s a neat bookend. For example, get together every Friday morning in say, April, to complete the course together. Start and finish the course that month.

  • Book a room (real or virtual): If you’re all working from the office, book a training room for the get-togethers above. If you’re all working virtually, set up an MS Teams, or similar, meeting. You can screenshare the video content OR simply watch the videos separately but at the same time. The main aim is to do it together.

  • Make it an event! If you can meet in-person, some simple catering adds to the fun. Think coffee and croissants, deluxe teas and donuts, sushi and jasmine tea … you get the idea. If you’re connecting online, you can self-cater similar themes or have some fun with themed backgrounds.

  • Nominate a host for each session: Take turns hosting the sessions. The host can create a theme, make sure everyone knows the time and date, and facilitate the conversations in-between the videos.

  • Create an action plan: At each meeting, everyone should note at least one thing you’ll implement from the learning. Then start your next meeting by checking-in with each other: Did everyone follow through? How did it go? What did you learn?

  • Refresh/revise a few months later: You get ongoing access to the videos, so why not bring your team together again a few months later to refresh and revise? Book it in right from the start!

Ready to begin? We’ll set you up for success.

For larger cohorts, we have simple ways to enrol you and sort the payment as a group. Just get in touch: training@magneto.net.au
