At last, the serial comma explained!

Serial commas (or Oxford commas) are often fought about. Some always use them, some never. But the answer is, as usual, ‘sometimes’! This infographic explains it well.

Its best line:

“I’d like to thank my parents, Bill Clinton and Oprah Winfrey.”

You kinda need the serial comma there, after Clinton, or it sounds like Bill and Oprah are your parents!

Using Google to write right

If in doubt about two versions of a phrase or punctuation, Google both (placing inverted commas around your search terms), to see which gets more hits. If one gets wildly more than the other, it’s probably right.
