Why AI rework is a communication problem

Ten slices of toast, four burnt and six golden, showing that nearly 4 in every 10 hours AI saves are lost to rework

AI saves you 10 hours. You lose 4 fixing it.

Using AI is exciting. And lightning fast.

But how much rework are you doing to fix its output?

If you said, ‘Not much,’ that’s a worry. People (especially leaders) can spot AI slop at 50 paces.

Most people give AI nowhere near enough context to generate high-quality results.

It causes hours of inefficient rework.

Workday surveyed 3,200 leaders and employees at large organisations. It found nearly 40% of the time people save with AI is lost to rework. (Workday, 2026)

Correcting errors.

Verifying outputs.

Rewriting content.

For every 10 hours AI saves, almost four go straight back into fixing it.

Bigger business? Bigger AI-rework tax

Say 5,000 people use AI and each saves 3 hours a week. Rework claws back over an hour of that per person.

That’s more than 5,500 hours lost. Every week.

It’s like 146 full-time staff doing nothing but checking and fixing what AI got wrong.

Why the rework?

Workday found most organisations have added AI to roles and processes that haven’t been redesigned around it.

AI knows a lot. But it doesn’t have your context or standards:

  • How your board wants a paper framed.
  • What your brand should sound like.
  • Which claims Legal won’t let through.
  • How you want AI to behave (Jargon or not? Main point first or buried?).

So every user adds that context from scratch. Your strongest people do it well. Others don’t. And the price is rework.

‘How we AI here’: Make the learning happen on real work

Based on our years of copywriting and communication-skill training, we built Magneto Mentor AI. It gives AI what it needs: structure and context.

And tells AI how you want things done: your rules and preferences.

The result is work that’s more consistent, reliable, compliant – and repeatable.

You finally see what ‘good’ looks like.

It’s fast and easy to use. And aligned with enterprise security standards (no confidential inputs, no file uploads, all AI work happens your side).

You use it with your existing AI tools.

It means best-practice AI upskilling happens on the job, one task at a time. Learn by doing.

Take it for a spin: Try Magneto Mentor AI.

Team leader? Get your team on the same AI page

Our ‘Applied AI for team leaders’ Learning Bite is a practical one- to two-hour session for team leaders and their teams. You’ll leave with:

  • custom AI instructions for each role, so everyone writes to your standard, tone and style
  • workflows for the tasks your team does on repeat
  • quality checks that run before anything leaves your team.

Less fixing. More of the time AI promised you.
