Protect your job. Put in the AI reps
Having AI is like having a gym membership.
The card in your wallet won’t get you fit. Only two things will:
- Turning up
- Knowing what to do.
I’ve been working out for 44 years. Sadly, I’ve seen many people (especially after New Year’s eve) turn up to the gym, but who are clueless. They drift from machine to machine, half-heartedly pushing out lightweight reps.
It’s great that they’re there. But they don’t know how to get fit or build muscle (it’s quite a science). So they get disillusioned and quit.
Ditto with AI. People give up because they can’t trust its results. Or they lose 40 per cent of their AI-gifted time gains fixing problems. They get tired of ‘botsitting.’
AI didn’t break its promise. We just haven’t learned to use it yet.
Building your AI skills is now critical
In the US, McKinsey found employer demand for AI fluency has jumped sevenfold in two years, faster than any other skill.
The good news? The skills you already have are worth more, not less – if you pair them with AI.
You, augmented
PwC’s 2026 research found the companies getting the greatest returns use AI to amplify human expertise, not just automate.
The winners don’t swap people for machines – they redesign the work around both.
What does redesigning look like?
Goldman Sachs’ research chief Jim Covello posed the awkward question: all that spend, where’s the return? He has a point: one widely cited MIT study found 95 per cent of big-company AI pilots delivered a fat zero to the bottom line.
But size cuts both ways: smaller, nimbler outfits are banking quick wins while the giants stall in pilot mode.
The catch: you only get the payoff if you redesign how the work gets done – end to end, not task by task – and grow the skills to match.
The handbrake isn’t the AI.
It’s skill, and the nerve to redesign the work.
How to grow your team’s AI skills
Brief a writer poorly, and you’ll get worthless words.
In 20 years of comms training, we’ve realised people are average at briefing themselves.
No wonder they get average results from AI. It needs a good brief. AI needs structured thinking.
We built Magneto Mentor for this. It helps you give AI what it needs. The difference can be dramatic.
It’s a skill. One you build with reps. Not one and done, but keep at it, with a personal trainer, a mentor.
You have to put in the reps.
So pick one work task. Build one workflow. Feel one win.
Welcome to your AI gym. Think of us as your spotter.
